Something I read

February 5, 2009 | Dr. Jeff Wells

Just came across this statement in a rather dry scientific paper that I was reading yesterday (Luyssaert, L., et al. 2007. CO2 balance of boreal, temperate, and tropical forests derived from a global database. Global Change Biology 13:2509-2537.)

"...preservation of unmanaged forest ecosystems could be just as important as reforestation efforts in mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration."

Yup, continuing evidence of why protecting the intact Boreal forests of Canada as has been pledged by Quebec's Premier Charest and Ontario's Premier McGuinty is a globally important strategy for dealing with global warming.

Check out International Boreal Conservation Campaign science panelist Andrew Weaver's excellent opinion piece about the issue at: /news_pages/news_detail.php?a_id=1892&host=
