The Importance of the Christmas Bird Count to Our Understanding of Boreal Bird Populations

In the United States, winter bird communities are often overwhelmingly made up of boreal bird species. On many Christmas Bird Counts, boreal birds make up 50-90 percent of the species tallied, even in some places as far as the southern United States.
