Two Surpises
A paper by Erin Bayne and colleagues reports on an amazing study that demonstrated for one of the first times, that industrial noise by itself, can cause a decrease in the density of birds near the source of the noise. In this case the authors showed that the noise of the compressor stations used in the process of extracting oil from Alberta tar sands results in fewer breeding birds. Already there are 5000 existing compressor stations in the tar sands whose noise the authors predict may have resulted in 85,000 fewer birds.
The paper, which appeared in the online edition of Conservation Biology, is titled “Impacts of chronic anthropogenic noise from energy-sector activity on abundance of songbirds in the boreal forest.”

Another recently published paper also based on research done in Alberta, showed some surprising effects of clearcutting on one of the most common winter backyard birds in the eastern U.S.—the White-throated Sparrow. The surprise is that although White-throated Sparrows occurred in areas where forests had been clearcut, their breeding success in clearcuts was much lower than in intact forest. The authors write, “…we present the first evidence to suggest that habitat alteration on the breeding grounds may negatively affect White-throated Sparrows.”

Hi there everyone, I don’t normally do this but I thought I let you all in on a little secret of mine, that has done wonders for me and my birds. It’s called GET SERiOUS, it’s a bottle of stain, odor and pheromone remover that’s sold in Petsmart stores. This stuff is by far the most effective odor and stain remover I have ever used on my birds. It works in a matter of minutes and the formula is super effective, it even revitalizes my carpet! It works on any surface and I plan on giving away a bottle to all my friends at my annual Christmas gathering!
I thought I’d let you all know about a bottle of magic that I have run across named GET SERiOUS. For those of you that have as many birds as I do, (3 macaws and a Grey) you need an effective stain and odor remover and this stuff is by far the best one I have ever used and I can get it at Petsmart. It is amazing and works in a matter of minutes. It’s non toxic and doesn’t harm my birds in any way, and you can even supercharge the formula by sticking it in the microwave. The others Ive used (natures miracle and such) just don’t compare to this stuff. It’s a must have for anyone that keeps or enjoys birds, but doesn’t want the smell and stains that go along with them.
My birds are sweet little angels, and I know they don’t mean to poop allover the house, but accidents happen. And when they do happen, I use my trusted bottle of GET SERiOUS. My husband and have been using the stuff for years and it’s by far the most effective stain and odor remover I have ever used.I just squirt some of the stuff on and my baby birdy stains are gone in a matter of a minute or two. Its nontoxic, and bio degradable so your also not harming the environment with harsh chemicals. Its by far the most effective stain remover for birds, so much so that It is the only product I use!
My wife and I enjoy our wild birds immensely, but the thing is, it is hell getting poop stains ouf of my concrete. I have tried everything and Im sure other bird fanciers have run across the same problem. I thought I was resigned to live a life of white stained concrete, that is until my neighbor gave me a bottle of get serious. This stuff is by far the most effective stain and odor remover I have ever used in my life. I just squirt some stuff on and in a matter of minutes it removes my concrete stains! Its non-toxic (most of the other cleaner ARNT) and even bio-degradable. The stuff is amazing!
