Over the holidays Jeff posted a new guest blog on National Geographic about the plight of the George River caribou herd in northern Quebec and Labrador. This herd, once the largest in the world just decades ago, has plummeted to dangerously low numbers of [...]

For your eyes and ears

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Last week we shared some of the good news stories that came out about our recent efforts to protect woodland caribou (not to mention why this protection would be a huge boost for a wide range of birds!). I thought I would follow up and share some of the radio and tv interviews we and [...]

Last week I wrote about the important policy briefing paper I coauthored along with the International Boreal Conservation Science Panel and some of the world’s most notable caribou experts. I thought I would provide a short follow-up and say that the paper received a great response [...]

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

As mentioned in our last post about the impacts of the Gulf oil spill on migratory birds, I did an interview on Monday with Radio Canada International’s show The Link about the vast number of birds who have flown to and through the Gulf Coast on their migratory paths, beginning in Canada’s boreal forest. Listen [...]

From Quebec to the Gulf

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Our story about the potential problems that Boreal birds may face as they arrive on the Gulf Coast for the winter or on their way to more southerly wintering areas has been picked up by a number of news outlets over the last couple of weeks. Thought readers may be interested to read some of [...]

While this Canada Goose lives and migrates in the wild, certain sub-populations have sprung up in urban areas and have become quite the nuisance.

Per Breiehagen positions himself for a shot during our birding expedition in northern Ontario in 2008, which resulted in a great feature article in Audubon Magazine about birds and the paper industry. I also documented the trip in several posts, beginning with this one.
